The Social Outfit x Bobbin and Ink

The Social Outfit x Bobbin and Ink

In August we were so excited to be a part The Social Outfit's second anniversary, by running an interactive screen printing workshop with IEC school kids from Fairfield High in their Newtown Store.

The Social Outfit has been working with Fairfield High School since 2013, collaborating with and providing workshops for their Intensive English Centre students, of whom 91% speak a language other than English at home. The community of Fairfield is a wonderful hub of multiculturalism. It's wonderful to see an organisation so passionately bridging gaps in knowledge and opportunity by fostering creative talent, like these kids.

It was really great getting to meet these students, many who haven't been living in Australia very long. Everyone was a little worried at first, but they warmed up quickly as we chatted, drew and cut stencils to print on these awesome tote bags. It was such a fun day and they all walked out proudly with a unique handmade design. Such champions!

And...pull! Screen printing success! 👍🏼 #bobbinandink #screenprinting #communityworkshop #fairfieldhighschool

The Social Outfit is a registered charity and social enterprise whose purpose is to employ and train people from refugee and new migrant communities. They believe fashion and creativity can lead to learning and empowerment. By providing training and employment in clothing production, retail, design and marketing they aim to build-up lasting skills and draw on the traditional and cultural strengths of Sydney's diverse communities.

Thanks to Jackie Ruddock and Eloise Rapp for organising / running the day and reaching out to us for the collaborative workshop. We hope that there's more to come!

We really love supporting local organisations and charities that produce great social outcomes (or that just do gosh-darn awesome things).
