Make Your Own Jeans 2 Day Sewing Course

2 x

The original blue jean was patented in 1873 and almost 150 years later you can still find a a pair in countless wardrobes around the world! While it's easy to find a pair, getting that perfect fit is a little more elusive... hips and waists to contend with, awkward leg lengths and weirdly fitting crutches, getting the right amount of stretch and finding the right colour can all be a bit of an ordeal. So come and learn to make your own instead!

Our Make Your Own Jeans Course is all about working with denim fabric, selecting the right needles/fabric/threads, learning about top-stitching, button or zip flys, waistbands and pockets. Learn how to best use techniques to achieve a great fit and professional finish.
The aim is to improve your confidence in sewing with denim to achieve that most sought after of wardrobe staples: the perfect pair of jeans. It is for those who are confident sewing with woven fabrics but feel unsure about what tools and machine settings are best for getting quality results with denim.
We recommend that prior to booking in, you should have had some practice sewing. It's recommended that you should have completed 1 to 2 garments of any kind, relatively trouble free, following a commercial pattern, so that you can get the most out of the Intermediate to Advanced content. We assume attendees have full competency in operating a sewing machine and are comfortable working on their own when attending this intermediate sewing class (see Clothes Making for Beginners first, if you don't fit this criteria). Refunds will not be available if you have incorrectly assumed your skill level for this course.

Like our Clothes Making for Beginners Course, you'll be working on a project of your choosing. You'll need to select  and buy your own pattern prior to class commencing. In the interest of getting people to finish their jeans, we've narrowed the project choices down to these 3 jeans patterns:

The weekend course runs from 10am - 4pm across 2 days and includes a 1 hr lunch break each day. Please let us know in advance if you need to use our sewing machines and/or overlocker for the course, otherwise we will assume you're bringing your own to use. We also have a coverstitch on site that may be used for certain parts of your garment.

With a maximum number of 6 students per class, you'll get comforting one-on-one time with your knowledgeable teacher, Susan Goodwin of Measure Twice Cut Once.
